What Exactly is Breast Cancer????
Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that may grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too. Read More.
Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Approximately 1,700 men will also be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year. The evaluation of men with breast masses is similar to that in women, including mammography. READ MORE
Okay... HOW do I check to see if I have Breast Cancer???
SELF-BREAST EXAMINATION every couple of weeks to a month to check for any lumps or abnormalities, a doctor would be the best person to go to for a thorough examination. Women around age 21 should also get a PAP SMEAR to check for cervical cancer and a MAMMOGRAM to check for breast issues during their regular check ups just to be sure that your reproductive part is in perfect health.
Side note: I learned in class that eating healthy and exercising is a great way to help reduce your chances of developing breast cancer, even though heredity plays a big role. I also learned that if you have a cancer lump, it will not be painful...the final stages of a disease is usually when a person is in the most pain. Don't only take my word for it..you can also do your own research.
