In my head: Depression Hurts...

I'm positive that most of us have been depressed at one point in our lives. Sometimes life gets you down. Maybe you didn't get the grade you wanted,  someone pissed you off or hurt your feelings somehow, your going through some obstacles in your relationship; or maybe you feel like your not good enough in a certain aspect of your life. Whatever the case, you can overcome and become the best you that you can be....

Depression is more common than people think it is. Some people don't even know that they are depressed and just feel like they going crazy!!! Your not crazy!!!I had that feeling recently, but it's important not to let your past failures and frustrations get you down.

If you identify with several of the following signs and symptoms, and they just won’t go away, you may be suffering from clinical depression. These are the top signs from http://helpguide.org/mental/depression_signs_types_diagnosis_treatment.htm
  • you can’t sleep or you sleep too much
  • you can’t concentrate or find that previously easy tasks are now difficult
  • you feel hopeless and helpless
  • you can’t control your negative thoughts, no matter how much you try
  • you have lost your appetite or you can’t stop eating
  • you are much more irritable and short-tempered than usual
  • you have thoughts that life is not worth living (Seek help immediately if this is the case)

The important thing to always remember is that NOBODY is perfect. We all do things and engage in behaviors we are not proud of. I'm sure that there are things that you've done that you ask yourself, "what the heck was I thinking???" One of my favorite quote states:

“To regret one's own experiences is to arrest one's own development. To deny one's own experiences is to put a lie into the lips of one's life. It is no less than a denial of the soul.”-Oscar Wilde

I think this quote should remind us that we all have regrets in life...WE'RE HUMAN!!!The only perfect being is God. We were made to sin and that's just how it is. But the important thing about making a mistake is LEARNING from them. I try and see mistakes as one of the things that makes us who we are. When you think about it, if you didn't go through certain things in your life, you would not be the person you are today. You become a stronger more aware person, instead of that naive and un-experienced person you were. Also it is important to remember that we learn through experience and God knows who we are, and will always forgive us EVERY SINGLE TIME (even if our fellow human beings don't) we mess up. God made a new day for a reason...so try and get over the bad day.

Despite their flaws, what people are good at though is making us feel better. Look around you!! Even though we sometimes think that nobody will understand us, there is AT LEAST ONE person who will. If you don't have supportive people in your life, maybe it's time to find new friends or a new surrounding. Try talking to a counselor or psychiatrist if you have to.
Depression has different levels and can become gradually worse the longer you hold things in. I know when I'm upset or feeling down and I start thinking things it makes me feel worse, either more angrier or more useless. This is definitely not the way to go!!!Have you ever had that moment where you just feel like crap and feel like there is nothing that anyone could do to make you feel better? But then, when you express yourself and let out your frustration you feel soooo much better. If someone makes you mad you can always crack on them to your friends if it helps you feel a little better..lol...it works for me!!!

But being depressed will not change your situation. So GET OUT OF YOUR HEAD and let your feelings out!!! If you think you are suffering from depression, reach out and find a friend that you TRUST and feel comfortable opening up to that won't judge you, or a professional, and let them help you. If you notice that a friend is just not acting normal, try and reach out because when people are depressed, they are capable of doing things that are not characteristic of who they are. Stories about the Virginia Tech massacre,Columbine, and other cases of homicides and suicides should show you that this is something serious. These may have been really good people, but being depressed and not having anyone to talk to lead to hurt and sorrow....
